WOW is all I can say Loved this entire book. Book gets an A+ ending a B. TI says so much about us as people, society everything! I can understand how this book changed the food industry but I can also not understand why this book did not do more to change the world?

What I took away from this book? Make a positive impact in the world! Do not judge others as you do not know what they have been through. Other then that happy new year and happy reading.

First Bill Strickland, “Making the Impossible Possible.”

I was a little biased about this book because I heard Bill speak and visited his school prior to reading the book. The problem with that was that the book was good not great. But, Bills work and school truly are great.

Basic story Bill has built a school in the inner-city Pittsburgh and he takes the worst of the worst and has over a 70% success rate with these students. He truly built this school and his vision from the ground up.

“Eating Animals” Jonathn Safran Foer

Good book with good info on the food industry. I really did enjoy the writing and the info.

I feel that Micheal Pollan has kind of become the go to guy on food and the ethical choices people make with their food. But, this is a nice addition. I think one thing that stood out is the obvious pro-vegetrian approach the author had. I still feel meat eating is a personal choice and I am not here to dicate to anyone what they need to or should eat. All I ask is that people make EDUCATED decisions on what they eat. The problem is most people don’t actually educate theirselves on eating. One example is most people I know think I am nuts because I don’t drink milk.

So read this and continue to educate yourself.

More and more I have been taking an interest in history and how people become great or evil within our eyes. In other words is history soley written by the winners? Did great people in history only become great because they won and did the evil only become evil because they lost. Or are most of the leaders in the history of the world wrong and some are just better at covering their tracks?

Talk of the Devil is an interesting read Mr Orizio interviews seven former dictators: Idi Amin Dada, Jean-Bedel Bokassa, Wojciech Jaruzelski, Enver and Nexhmije Hoxha, Jean-Clause Duvalier, Mengistu Haile-Mariam, Slobadan Milosevis and Mira Markovis and he recieves a letter from Manual Antonio Noriega. What I realized about these people from reading his take on the interviews is that most of them have no idea what history says about them. Most of these dicatators had thousands of people killed and they can not figure out why they are considered evil!

This was a very good read, because as an American these are not figures that come up to often in our history. But, there were some interseting accounts of how America helped many of these dictators at one time or another. This makes me realize that we all must do our part to make the world a better place. The history went all the way back to President Ford then Regan, Bush, Clinton and Bush Jr all seemed to have some part in this history. I am not saying that our leaders were evil or had evil intent. What I am saying is that this is complex and we all must do our part to be more peaceful citizens.

Here is a man who motivated his men for over 400 days to never give up and did not lose a single man while being trapped in the worst place on the earth!

19 Jane Goodall “Harvest for Hope”

All I am going to say is you should read this for your health and you childrens health. Along the lines of Micheal Pollan. Don’t read fast food nation or any cheap version of this book. Read this book or Micheal Pollan.

Every person on earth should probably read this book or at least parts of it!

Morale to the story and the thing I took home from this book. People need to learn when to get out! Let’s just say that this book is about investments (no just money) time, work ect. When you invest in something and realize it is a poor investment get out! Do not sit around and think well how else can I work this. One great example used in this book is when one is late for work. What do they do try a short cut or speed. And as we know this will not get you to work faster so cut your losses and be late!

I truly feel that most people I meet lack critical thinking skills and this book will help most people with that. Do not be offended if you think I mean you. What I mean is this. If you remember there was a study done a while back about how chocolate milk is a “great” post workout drink? Every strength coach/ATC ect knows this. Yet none can tell you about the study. Research the study read about it and tell me is chocolate milk good or is the study not about wheter chocolate milk is good or bad? The study was flawed if it was trying to tell us if chocolte milk is a good post workout drink but most people don’t think about it.

Wow what a tangent. Sorry but THINK!

Good read dealing with people and our ability to kill our world. This book is a memoir about the descruction of nuclear weapons. Amazingly the author not only lived through WWII and saw first hand hand the destruction of nuclear weapons. He also was in the militray and was placed 4000 yards from a nuclear weapon as it went off. Amazing! Not in a good way either.

If you want a thought prevoking read then read this one.

Next “The End of Oil;the Gulf, Nigeria, and Beyond”

A nice overview of oil and it politcal influences around the world. Pick this up as a beginners guy to oil and it power. Easy and short read only around 85 pages. Check this one out as well.

This book covers the world, society and science from the point of view of the apple, potato, marijuana and the tulip. Each plant has a very interesting story to tell us about us and them! Like everything Micheal Pollan writes this book is about society, health and life. I really want everyone to read this book so I am not going to go into detail and ruin any of the book.

Please go buy anything Micheal Pollan has written and LEARN!

OK I had get that off my chest. So I saw Anna Quindlen speak this year and was able to meet her. She seemed like a nice enough lady. A little too umm what is the word here…. over the top for me. How is that? I did like her but she was just a little too much. This is in no way insulting her, maybe it is insulting me? I am not quiet sure.

As for the book. ehhhhh what can you say about a book you can read in 20 minutes. OK maybe 15 I don’t recall. It was a fine short story. Read it if you are waiting in front of Target. Wal Mart would prob work too.
